Rumor: Max Scherzer to Sign with the New York Mets

The New York Mets appear to be closing in on making a giant splash this offseason as the team is reportedly finalizing a deal with free-agent veteran starter Max Scherzer.

Mad Max is one of the most dominating pitchers in MLB history and would certainly give the Mets a perennial Ace to throw out on the mound every fifth day. Reports from Jon Morosi of MLB Network have Scherzer and the Mets working on a multi-year deal that's for $40 million per season.

The Mets have been busy as they have already signed a few position players including center fielder Starling Marte, and the versatile Mark Canha and Eduardo Escobar. Adding Scherzer though is a whole other level.

At 37 years old Scherzer would be heading to his fifth team which has included the Arizona Diamondbacks, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals and most recently with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He holds a career 190-97 record with a 3.16 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 3020 strike outs in 2536.2 innings of work. Scherzer will go down as one of the best ever but he's not worried about that right now, he still has plenty left in the tank wants to build on his eight All-Star appearances and three Cy Young awards.

Jacob deGrom and Scherzer at the top of your rotation? Not a bad start to say the least. Add in the likes of Taijuan Walker, Carlos Carrasco and Tylor Megill and the Mets rotation all of a sudden shapes up much stronger than last season.

Keep an eye on this one, sounds like Scherzer could be putting pen to paper on Monday with the Mets.
