Detroit Tigers And Cincinnati Reds Strike A Deal

The Detroit Tigers are expected to be aggressive this off-season and already have made their first trade. They have traded prospect Nick Quintana to the Cincinnati Reds for catcher Tucker Barnhart. They also have exercised Barnhart's club option, so he will be making $7.5 million with the team next season.

With this, the Tigers are getting a fantastic fielder behind the plate, as Barnhart has won two Gold Glove awards during his career. In 116 games this season with the Reds, he had seven home runs, 48 RBIs and a .247 batting average.

Barnhart spent the entirety of his career thus far with the Reds, so this is going to be a big change for the 30-year-old. However, he should be happy to be joining a Tigers team who showed signs of real improvement this season.

Quintana is a minor-leaguer who is trying to fight his way up to the show. However, he hasn't had the best of stats thus far. In two seasons in the minors, he has a 11 home runs, 64 RBIs and a .190 batting average. Yet, even with this, there is always room for improvement, so perhaps he can surprise a lot of fans.
