Arizona Diamondbacks And Tampa Bay Rays Strike A Deal

The Arizona Diamondbacks have outfielder Jordan Luplow from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for infielder prospect Ronny Simon.

Luplow split the 2021 season between Cleveland and the Rays. In 61 total games, he had 11 home runs, 28 RBIs and a .202 batting average. Those aren't jaw-dropping totals necessarily, but it is clear that the 28-year-old does have a good amount of pop to his bat.

Luplow also should come in handy quite well for the Diamondbacks, as he not only plays in the outfield, but also can be utilized at at first base. Therefore, he's a good depth utility guy to have when injuries occur. He also does have some upside, too. In 85 games with Cleveland in 2019, he had 15 home runs, 38 RBIs and a .276 batting average.

As for Simon, he had a pretty decent season playing Single-A ball. In 97 total games, he had 17 home runs, 63 RBIs and a .245 batting average. The 21-year-old is a bit of project, but so far, he certainly is making an impact in the minors.
