3 Teams Who Should Take A Chance On 2021 All-Star Yusei Kikuchi

Pitcher Yusei Kikuchi is such a fascinating free agent. The 30-year-old declined his one-year player option with the Seattle Mariners and will be looking to have a fresh start. During the first half of the 2021 season, Kikuchi was named to the All-Star Game, but things quickly went bad after. In the second half of the campaign, he had an ERA of 5.98 and was the complete opposite of his dominant form earlier on in the year. At season's end, he had a 7-9 record and 4.41 ERA.

Even with this, the success he had in the first half could make some teams interested in his services. Here are three who come to mind.

Chicago Cubs: The Chicago Cubs could take a chance on Kikuchi. Although they were sellers this season, it wouldn't hurt to add a pitcher who could have upside. They are in a position where next season doesn't come with the highest of expectations as well. Therefore, it could be a place for Kikuchi to regroup and just focus on being the pitcher he was during the first half of the 2021 season.

Miami Marlins: Derek Jeter has already noted that the Miami Marlins will be aggressive this off-season. However, if they strike out on big names, Kikuchi could be a player they look at. This is especially the case if it's on an affordable contract. Every playoff hopeful needs to have very strong pitching and Kikuchi does come with the potential to provide just that.

Tampa Bay Rays: It wouldn't be surprising to see the Rays pursue pitching after the way this season ended for them. They aren't known for going after big names on the market and due to Kikuchi's struggles at the end of the season, his value should be lower. Players seem to bounce back well when joining Tampa Bay, so why not give him a shot?
