Blue Jays Were Close to Making Two Big Trades

The Toronto Blue Jays are on the outside looking in at the postseason after falling .5 games short of a playoff spot. The team won 91 games and is missing out on the fun and management is now looking back and asking 'what if'?.

Reports have surfaced from Blue Jays insider Shi Davidi that the team was close to making two big trades. One with the Cleveland Indians for infielder Jose Ramirez and the other with the Detroit Tigers for outfielder Robbie Grossman.

Ramirez would have taken over at third base and it's like Cavan Biggio would have been heading the other way in the trade. The Indians infielder is among the league's best hitters and is someone the management duo of the Jays is very familiar with. He's 29, a three-time All-Star and under contract until the end of 2023. These trade talks could pick up once again this winter.

As for Grossman, he's a bit older at 32, and would have provided some insurance for the outfield. He he .239 this season with 23HR and 20 stolen bags. He's under contract for next season at $5 million and he could be considered a fall back option should the Jays have to package any outfielders in separate deals this offseason.
