It's Official: Khris Davis Is Back With The Oakland Athletics

The Oakland Athletics have selected Khris Davis' contract from Triple-A Las Vegas today. Now, the veteran outfielder will officially be a member of the Oakland Athletics again. The A's also recalled catcher Austin Allen.

This past off-season, the A's traded Davis with Jonah Heim and Dane Acker to the Texas Rangers in exchange for Elvis Andrus and Aramis Garcia. With the Rangers, Davis struggled significantly. In 22 games, he hit two home runs and had a very low .157 batting average. As a result of this, the Rangers would release him in June.

The A's then decided to give Davis another chance and signed him to a minor league deal in early August. In 16 games with Las Vegas, Davis was a real nightmare at the plate for opposing pitchers. He hit 10 home runs and had 25 RBIs to go along with a .333 batting average. Thus, it is rather apparent that he surely warrants another shot at the show. It appears that he is finding his rhythm. Now, it's just a matter of translating it to the MLB level again.

In his previous tenure with the A's, Davis won the Edgar Martinez Award in 2018, while also leading the entire league in home runs. He hit over 40 home runs on three separate occasions, while also totaling over 100 RBIs in each of those seasons. Overall, in five seasons with Oakland, he had 158 home runs, 418 RBIs and a .240 batting average.

At this said juncture, the A's have a 73-59 record and are second in AL West. They trail the Houston Astros by five games and are a game behind the Boston Red Sox for the final AL Wild Card spot. We will have to see how much Davis helps them during this final stretch of the season.

Welcome back to Oakland. Khris!
