Chicago Cubs Expected to Sign Multiple Players This Offseason

While the Chicago Cubs threw in the towel this season, trading away some of their long-time stars, the team is looking forward to a new chapter beginning this offseason. Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer confirmed to the media earlier this week, the team will be spending a ton of cash this winter.

Hoyer spoke with ESPN on Friday and had this to say about the future of his club:

We plan to be really active in free agency. We plan to spend money intelligently. There's offseasons when free agency is something you do a little bit of. And obviously we have to be a little more active than usual to fill out our roster because we have a lot more open spots.

The Cubs only have $38.5 million tied up for the 2022 season and will have a number of holes to fill throughout their lineup and rotation. There's a ton of talent available on the open market, the hard part is going to be convincing them to sign with the Cubs after the team blew itself up. In 2021 the Cubs let go Kyle Schwarber, and then traded Yu Darvish, Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Javier Baez. Good luck to Mr Hoyer. There's a lot of work to be done this offseason at Wrigley.
