Indians Catcher Out For Season with Torn ACL

His first nine games of the season, with the Detroit Tigers, started off with a bang, as Wilson Ramos clubbed 6 home runs in that span, and the 34-year-old backstop looked like he had found a new home. But it was all downhill from there. Since then, he'd been released by Detroit, picked up by Cleveland, and now is done for the season with a devastating left knee injury.

The torn ACL isn't the first of Ramos' career. He also tore the ligament in his right knee in 2016.

Ramos was throwing out a runner at 2nd base on Sunday night when he collapsed in a heap after the throw. He also sprained his MCL in the fall. There's no word yet on his recovery timetable, but as a free agent after the season, it could be difficult for Ramos to find a job for 2022.

A veteran with a more-than-commendable 12 years of service in the big leagues, he's compiled a career .271 batting average, along with 136 home runs and an OPS of .750. The meat of his career was spent with the Washington Nationals from 2010-16, including his career year of 2016, when he slugged 22 HR to go along with 80 RBI and a .307 average.

Ramos is a former two-time All-Star.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
