Horrible Scene as A's Pitcher Struck in Face with Line Drive; Condition Updated

A warning that this is very difficult to watch, as a line drive caught Oakland A's ace pitcher Chris Bassitt flush in the face in Tuesday night's game in Chicago.

Bassitt suffered a fractured cheekbone and jawbone, but the good news emerging today is that Bassitt's vision is unaffected and other scans—including a head CT scan— are clean.

He was released from hospital last night after being rushed from the field. He was said to be conscious after the incident. Bassitt will undergo facial surgery within the week, after the swelling goes down.

His representatives released a statement thanking all for the outpouring of love and support.

Thoughts and prayers for Bassitt and his family were sent out from across the baseball world.
