Trade Rumors: Top 3 Teams Most Likely To Sell (And Who’s On The Move)

The trade deadline is only 4 weeks away, and while some teams are still on the fence, these 3 teams are most assuredly at the front of the “sellers” class.

1. Pittsburgh Pirates

The Pirates are, once again, buried in the standings, with a 29-50 record, the 2nd worst in all of baseball. But they have a few very interesting pieces that teams are clamoring for.

Most Likely To Be Dealt:

Closer Richard Rodriguez: What contending team doesn't want a high-leverage reliever to add to their bullpen at the trade deadline? Rodriguez is simply one of the best in the league. But his cost will be higher as he has a favorable, controllable contract for a couple of more years, and he's killing it this season, with a 1.78 ERA, 0.69 WHIP, and 10 saves. The Toronto Blue Jays, among others, have strong interest.

Others highly involved in trade talks include second baseman Adam Frazier and corner infielder Colin Moran (though a freshly broken hand may put a damper on his trade value).

2. Colorado Rockies

Another team near the bottom of the NL standings. The highlight of their season will be hosting the All-Star Game and HR Derby in a couple of weeks. But then their season will really drop off, as they are expected to trade their franchise player.

Most Likely To Be Dealt:

Shortstop Trevor Story is one of the superstars of the sport. He becomes a free agent at season's end, and the Rockies will undoubtedly be unable to meet his contract demands. Former MLB general manager, now analyst, Jim Bowden, says keeping him would be a "huge mistake" for the rebuilding Rockies.

Same goes for starting pitcher Jon Gray, another impending free agent, who's having a fine season despite the lofty air of Coors Field.

3. Arizona Diamondbacks

The Diamondbacks are bad. Historically bad. They lost an all-time record 24 straight games on the road, and are in the middle of a horrendous 7-47 stretch (yes, 7-47!).  The problem is, they’re so atrocious, it’s hard to find any attractive pieces other teams would be interested in.

Ketel Marte is the unquestioned star of this team, but he’s unlikely to be traded because (a) he’s the one redeeming piece this franchise can build on, and (b) he’s been injured this season... a lot.

Most Likely To Be Dealt:

Eduardo Escobar is a  middle-infield power bat, who has been rumored to be on the move, with the Chicago White Sox heavily involved in discussions, though other teams are on the prowl.

David Peralta: He's had an off-season thus far, but Bowden calls Peralta "a sleeper" in trade talks, and says he would be a solid outfield add for a team with needs.
