Trade Rumor: Red Sox and Rockies Discussing Deal

The Colorado Rockies and Boston Red Sox have reportedly held some trade discussions recently and the chatter seems to be centered around first baseman C.J. Cron.

The power-hitting first baseman has 11 HR on the season, hitting .252 and knocking in 32 RBI. The 31-year-old has bounced around in recent years as this is his first season in Colorado after spending time in Detroit, Minnesota, Tampa Bay, and originally with the Angels in Los Angeles.

Cron's best season came in 2018 with the Tampa Bay Rays when he smacked 30 dingers and drove in 74 RBI. It's likely the Red Sox put his talents on their radar after seeing his production abilities first hand all season in the AL East.

Any deal for Cron won't need to be a giant package. The Red Sox could likely make this trade work by giving up a mid-level pitching prospect or a AA bat. 'Crony' is a free agent at season's end and could help give the Red Sox some platoon options to join Bobby Dalbec.
