Dodgers Great Dave Stewart Boycotting the Franchise

Dave Stewart was not happy with how the Los Angeles Dodgers handled the Trevor Bauer situation and for this he's decided to boycott the team. Stewart won't be attending games, events or celebrations anytime soon including the 40th anniversary celebration of their 1981 World Series championship team

The former All-Star pitcher spoke to USA Today's Bob Nightengale and had this to say on his feelings towards the franchise:

The (Dodgers) organization isn't what it was when we came through. The Dodgers organization that I grew up in under the O'Malley family would never stand for that. The Dodgers should have stepped up in that situation, and they didn't. You've got to have character standards. I told them, 'I can't show up for that.

Stewart wanted discipline for Bauer and he wasn't alone. Even with Bauer repeatedly denying the accusations through his agents. His hearing is scheduled for July 23. The Dodgers were going to start him over this past weekend but weren't able to once the MLB put him on administrative leave.

Stewart attested Bauer's big contract to their actions and continued mentioning to Nightengale:

I know they owe him a lot of money, but the right thing is to distance yourself from that guy. I don't want him in my clubhouse. If you're a teammate, you can't support him. And if you're a teammate supporting him, what are you standing for?. If it wasn't for his contract, he'd be gone. But even with the money they owe him, you can't allow him to perform for you and act like nothing happened. You just can't.

The Bauer case continues as we'll have to wait a few weeks to see what unfolds. As for Dave Stewart's feelings towards the matter, the jury's out.
