Jazz Chisholm Projected To Land Massive Contract This Offseason

Former MLB GM Jim Bowden projects New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. to sign a six-year, $128 million contract with an opt-out after the second year when he reaches free agency, according to his free-agent rankings for The Athletic.

A Down Year At The Plate

Chisholm is 28 and hit .231/.312/.399 with a .711 OPS, 19 home runs, 55 RBI, and a career-high 41 stolen bases in 137 games, with the steals ranking third in the American League.

He was worth 3.5 fWAR and 1.7 bWAR, and his 15 Outs Above Average ranked in the 98th percentile, though he was minus-6 in Defensive Runs Saved.

That’s a drop from 2025, when he hit .242/.332/.481 with 31 homers and 31 steals, won a Silver Slugger, and posted the first 30-30 season of his career.

The Yankees were swept by Tampa Bay in the ALDS, Chisholm hit .182 with no homers in the postseason, and he was benched during the series after a string of mistakes.

The Market

Bowden’s $128 million works out to about $21.3 million a year, well below the eight to 10 years and $35 million annually Chisholm reportedly sought earlier this season.

An anonymous executive told MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand a fair deal would be three to four years averaging roughly $20 million, and Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller projected six years and $126 million in August.

The qualifying offer is about $23.1 million, and MLB.com wrote the Yankees seem unlikely to extend one, which could open his market to more clubs.

MLB.com ranked him No. 15 among the top 30 free agents and noted he’s one of the few top free agents still in his 20s.

Free agency opens five days after the World Series ends.
