5 Suitors Named For Alec Bohm in Free Agency
Alec Bohm had been a trade candidate for the Philadelphia Phillies in each of the last two years. Now, he's a free agent and able to decide on his own future. The big question is: will the Phillies try to re-sign him?
Batting .249 with 15 home runs, 88 RBIs, and a .698 OPS, Bohm suffered a downtick in some of his averages this season, but still drove in 88 for the Phils. Plus, he has positional versatility, able to play first or third.
According to Mark Feinsand, other than the Phillies, there are 5 suitors to watch for Bohm this offseason.
New York Mets
The Mets’ production at first base was third worst in the majors, with a .667 OPS. Jorge Polanco, however, is under contract for another year. And at third base, a .684 OPS ranked 19th. Bo Bichette's pending decision on his opt-out could affect the Mets' ability to go after Bohm.
LA Angels
Their .609 OPS at the hot corner ranked 28th in the bigs. There are no other third base candidates in the system ready to take over the position, notes Feinsand.
Minnesota Twins
"First base could be a focus for the Twins this offseason, making Bohm a possible fit for Minnesota. Royce Lewis, who took half of the at-bats at the position last season, could be a potential non-tender candidate," writes Feinsand.
St. Louis Cardinals
The Cards had a .620 OPS from their third basemen, which was 4th-worst in MLB. And Nolan Gorman? Forget about it. He had his second straight season with a negative WAR.
Cincinnati Reds
Another team desperate to improve their production from the hot corner, their .583 OPS was dead last in the National League. Neither of the two incumbents were the answer.
"(Eugenio) Suárez has a mutual option that will be declined, while Ke’Bryan Hayes’ woeful offensive season (five home runs, nine RBIs and a 17 OPS+ in 242 plate appearances) left the Reds" looking for a new solution for 2027.
