Pending Free Agent Sonny Gray Considering Shocking Move

36-year-old Sonny Gray is having a spectacular season for the Boston Red Sox, arguably the best of his illustrious career. He has a major-league-leading 17 wins (17-4 record), a career-best 2.69 ERA and a 135-to-40 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 150 2/3 innings pitched.  Is it possible he'll call it quits after this season? 

Gray has a $30 million mutual option for next season, but he hasn't decided if he'll continue to pitch after this year.

Per Alex Speier of the Boston Globe, Gray is not ready to commit to next season.

"If my family wants me to hang it up, I’ll be done in a heartbeat,” Gray said.

“We’ll see what the future holds for me, but if this is it, no better way to go out and try to do something special here the next couple months.”

In his last start, Gray held the Baltimore Orioles scoreless over seven innings, on just three hits, with seven strikeouts, leading the BoSox to a 5-0 win. They currently sit firmly entrenched in the second Wild Card spot in the American League, and they're hoping for a significant playoff run.

Gray is in his 14th big league season, is a three-time All-Star, and has earned approximately $127 million over the course of his career.
