Orioles Sending Adley Rutschman to Division Rival For MASSIVE Haul

In a huge blockbuster move, baseball's former No. 1 prospect, and three-time All-Star Adley Rutschman has been traded by the Baltimore Orioles to their division rival Boston Red Sox. 

Rutschman is currently on the IL with a wrist injury, but is expected to be headed for a rehab stint this week.

In exchange, the Orioles get a massive return of five prospects, including THREE of the Red Sox' top 5:
  • RHP Anthony Eyanson (#2 Red Sox prospect)
  • RHP Kyson Witherspoon (#4 in Red Sox' system)
  • C/OF Enddy Azocar (#5)
  • OF Harold Rivas
  • C Carlos Narvaez
  • C Jake Rogers

     

Eyanson has a 1.69 ERA in 11 Double-A appearances this year, including 10 starts.

Red Sox insider Sean McAdam quotes one rival talent evaluator as saying this about that insane return that Baltimore got:

"I'm absolutely dumbfounded by this...This is literally one of the most ridiculous trades I've seen in 30 years."

It's a far greater return than what the Tigers got for the best pitcher in baseball, Tarik Skubal. The slight difference is that Skubal is a two-month rental, while Rutschman has one more year of team control (arbitration) for Boston.

Rutschman was the No. 1 overall pick in 2019 and is still just 28 years old. Among his many honors and numbers: • 3x All-Star • Silver Slugger Award winner • College World Series champion • Golden Spikes Award winner • Career .254 AVG, 69 HR, 277 RBIs, .756 OPS

His major league stats aren't as impressive as were expected. This year, he's hitting .251 with a .764 OPS and eight homers.
