MLB Trade Rumors: Brewers Reacquire Peralta In Ironic Trade Proposal

The Milwaukee Brewers were probably the biggest losers in the Tarik Skubal-to-the-Dodgers outcome, only because if they could have paired the two-time Cy Young winner with Jacob Misiorowski for a one-two punch at the top of their rotation, it could have gone a long way to making them very tough to beat in the postseason.

Alas, as usual, the Dodgers have nabbed the top player on the market, so the Brew Crew need to dip into the rest of the free agent pool to come up with some rotation depth. And a familiar face, Freddy Peralta, probably makes a lot of sense for them. 

Peralta was a two-time All-Star in his eight years in Milwaukee, led the majors last year in wins with 17, struck out 200+ three times, and had a career 3.59 ERA for them, pitching near the top of their rotation. Sure, he's having a terrible contract year with the NY Mets in 2026, but returning to the friendly confines of Milwaukee could rejuvenate Fastball Freddy. 

This proposed deal from Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report can only be described as ironic. After the Mets sent two prized prospects to the Brewers to acquire Peralta last offseason, could they at least make a deal to get one of them back?

Milwaukee receives:

• SP Freddy Peralta

New York Mets receive:

• IF/OF Jett Williams

Maybe Peralta can turn around his season, which currently has him sitting with a 4.99 ERA, being back on a first-place team, and a real contender. He could use some kind of change of scenery as he heads into free agency after the season. In this proposed deal, he would join, in addition to Misiorowski, a super deep rotation that also includes a superb Kyle Harrison (8-2, 3.01 ERA, returning from a rehab assignment this coming week), excellent rookie Logan Henderson (5-1, 2.66 ERA), and the other piece he was traded for from the Mets, Brandon Sproat. 

As for the Mets, they would save a little face, and at least salvage something from that disastrous trade, getting Williams back. Granted, the 22-year-old has struggled this year in Triple-A with a .234 average and .726 OPS, but as a first-round pick in 2022, he's still got a great prospect pedigree and will hopefully still be a major league piece.
