Bieber has been placed on the 15-day IL with "right teres major inflammation". No, that does not sound good.
After a couple of rough starts at the beginning of August, Bieber's last two outings gave the Jays hope that he could be one of their top starters down the stretch as they fight for a playoff berth. He allowed just two earned runs in 13 combined innings in starts against the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays. He had a 12:1 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
He had brought his ERA down to a 4.53 mark, with a 5-2 record.
The timing for this shoulder injury couldn't be worse, as the Jays fight with six other teams separated by two games to land the final Wild Card berth in the AL.
Trey Yesavage recently hit the IL as well after undergoing surgery to repair the meniscus in his left knee. Jameson Taillon, a starter Toronto acquired at the trade deadline, is also on the IL with a forearm injury.
That leaves the Jays rotation at Dylan Cease, Jose Soriano, Max Scherzer, and.... pray for rain?
Bieber will be a free agent after the season.
