MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Eyeing 3-Time All-Star As Latest Trade Target

The New York Yankees are in desperate need of a lineup boost. Their offense has gone into a historic swoon since Aaron Judge went on the injured list on June 1st. They're 29th in batting average, 30th in OBP, 24th in slugging pct., 27th in OPS, 27th in OPS+ and 26th in runs scored.

And one of the spots where the biggest gains could be had is behind the plate. They've gotten only a .553 OPS out of their catchers.

To that end, they've been linked quite a bit to Ryan Jeffers of the Minnesota Twins, but now the Yanks also have their eye on three-time All-Star and former top prospect in baseball Adley Rutschman of the Baltimore Orioles, per insider Jon Heyman.

The Orioles, per insider Jeff Passan, are indeed having conversations with other teams about Rutschman. But the Yankees aren't the only team desperate for an upgrade at catcher. The Chicago White Sox are also said to be trying to pry Rutschman free, among others.

Rutschman is batting .251 with 8 HR and 47 RBI, with a .764 OPS. He is currently on the injured list with wrist inflammation. 

If New York can't land the Orioles' backstop, another target, per Heyman, is Tler Stephenson of the Cincinnati Reds. 

Expect the Yankees to be one of the busiest teams buying as we head to next Monday's trade deadline.
