MLB Trade Rumors: Red Sox & White Sox Becoming Trade Partners
I like what (ChiSox Exec VP/GM) Chris Getz is doing... The White Sox right now are one of only eight teams in baseball that has scored 400 runs. That's how good this offence has been. Very young team that's going to be together for years to come. But pitching is the issue as we all know. If they are going to win this division or they're going to get in as a Wild Card team, they're going to have to get pitching. If the Red Sox decided to sell between now and the August 3rd trade deadline, the White Sox would have interest in Sonny Gray and Aroldis Chapman. Two guys that would absolutely fill their need and would improve their chances of winning. I do expect the White Sox to be buyers.
Both Gray and Chapman are having elite, All-Star-type seasons.
Gray is having one of the best years of his career, with a 9-1 record, a 2.69 ERA and a 1.11 WHIP. He would be a massive addition to the ChiSox rotation if they could swing a deal for him. Aside from Davis Martin and Sean Burke, their starting staff is by far the weakest link in the ChiSox chain.
Chapman will be in great demand, as every contender is looking for bullpen help at the trade deadline, particularly in high-leverage spots. It doesn't get much better than what Chapman, the 2-time World Series winner, has done for most of this season. Aside from a couple of recent rough outings, he has put together a stellar campaign. He allowed only one run in his first 21 appearances, with a 0.44 ERA at that point, just a couple of weeks ago. But giving up 5 runs in his last 5 appearances has left him with a 2.19 ERA, still nothing to sneeze at, with 16 saves.
The White Sox look like they're for real, and trading for one or both of these two would give them a real shot at making a bit of noise in the postseason.
