Angels & Rangers Pull Off 1st Notable Trade Of Deadline Week
Trade news: The Texas Rangers are acquiring right-handed reliever Chase Silseth and catcher Logan O’Hoppe from the Los Angeles Angels, sources tell ESPN.

In exchange, the Angels get minor-league SS Angel Arredondo. The young infielder is not among the Rangers Top 30 Prospects list per MLB Pipeline. The 19-year-old has a .789 OPS at Class-A this season.
O'Hoppe is a former high-end prospect for the Angels, and launched 20 home runs in his first major league season in 2024. But he's having a dreadful year with just four homers and a .209 average in 75 games.
The Rangers have had trouble behind the plate this year, as both Danny Jansen and Kyle Higashioka have been out recently, and even when they've played have put up pretty awful numbers.
O'Hoppe, per Rangers PR, has 52 successful ABS challenges, which are 4th-most among A.L. catchers. As well, he has a .273 average vs. LHP this year, 3rd-best among A.L. catchers (min 50 AB). They also note that since 2024, O'Hoppe's 288 starts behind the plate are 3rd-most in the A.L., trailing only SEA's Cal Raleigh (302) and ATH's Shea Langeliers (299).
But it appears that he will need to win his way up to the big club, as the early reports are that he'll be sent to Triple-A for now.
Silseth came up as a promising starter a few years back, but is having a nice year out of the Angels bullpen, with a 2.72 ERA and 10.9 strikeouts per nine innings. He should be a nice upgrade for the Texas 'pen, though he'll need to bring the walks down (5.0 BB/9) to have a true impact.
