MLB Trade Rumors: Blue Jays Linked To Elite Pitching Trade Target

The injuries continue to pile up for the Toronto Blue Jays, notably in the starting rotation. With Dylan Cease, Shane Bieber, Max Scherzer and Jose Berrios currently on the IL (the latter for the entire season), the Jays will continue to look for pitching help.

Despite their floundering start to the 2026 season, the defending American League champions still find themselves tied for a Wild Card berth at this point. If they can get to the postseason, not many teams would want to face a short series against Kevin Gausman, Cease and Trey Yesavage.

But what if Toronto fortified its rotation even further with another ace like Freddy Peralta?

Freddy Peralta linked to Blue Jays as 'dream' trade destination

Christopher Kline of Fansided sees the Jays as the perfect fit for the NY Mets trade target. He calls it a "dream" landing spot for the right-hander. Peralta is a pending free agent, and with his goal of a long-term deal, it doesn't appear that an extension in New York is in the offing. The Mets, who still find themselves behind six other teams chasing a Wild Card spot in the NL, would be foolish not to deal Peralta before they'd lose him for nothing after the season.

And Peralta would get to an ideal situation with a chance to win.

"If New York bottoms out, however, Peralta could be better served helping Toronto turn its season around. He'd get to pitch ... on a Blue Jays team that was just in the World Series (and that has plenty of money to re-sign Peralta as a free agent)," writes Kline.

Peralta has been the one big bright spot for the Mets this season, pitching to a 3.55 ERA with a 68:28 strikeout to walk ratio. The 30-year-old is on pace for his 4th straight 200 K season.
