MLB Trade: Blue Jays & Tigers Swing Deal For DFA'd Pitcher

With the injuries continuing to strike the Toronto Blue Jays pitching staff, they have hit the trade market to bring in a reinforcement. Toronto has struck a deal with the Detroit Tigers for righty Connor Seabold.

It's a reunion of sorts for Seabold, who was in camp with the Blue Jays in the spring but exercised an opt out and joined the Tigers.

With Detroit, the 30-year-old posted a 3.45 ERA in 15.2 innings over 11 outings, with a strong 14:5 strikeout to walk ratio. But he was the victim of a roster crunch and was designated for assignment this past week.

Seabold's only significant run in the majors came in Colorado a couple of years back, which is the main contributing factor to his 7.28 career ERA.

But after he signed a minor-league deal with the Jays in late January, he opened some eyes with improved velocity. He struck out 13 in 6.2 innings. But the five runs he surrendered left him with a poor ERA, and when he wasn't named to the Jays' opening day roster, he opted out.

Now he'll get another chance to show what he can do with the Jays organization.

Toronto sends minor-league left-hander Juanmi Vasquez to Detroit in exchange for Seabold. He was in A-ball.
