MLB Rumors: Tigers & Pirates Linked to Potential Big Trade

Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates

The Detroit Tigers have had a tough start to the 2026 season, as they are currently at the bottom of the American League Central with a 4-7 record. When noting that the Tigers had high expectations heading into the campaign, this kind of start is certainly disappointing.

With the Tigers struggling out of the gate, it would not be surprising if they looked to make some moves to try to get things back on track. When looking at their current roster, it is clear that they could use another impactful hitter.

Due to this, the Tigers are being linked to one of the top trade candidates in the league right now.

In a recent article for Bleacher Report, Zachary D. Rymer named the Tigers as a potential landing spot for Pittsburgh Pirates slugger Oneil Cruz.

Cruz would certainly have the potential to be a nice addition to the Tigers' roster, as he is a threat at both the plate and on the basepath. He is also capable of playing both in the infield and the outfield, so he would give the Tigers a player with plenty of versatility.

In 11 games so far this season with the Pirates, Cruz has four home runs, 12 RBI, and a .295 batting average. This is after he had 20 home runs, 38 stolen bases, and 61 RBI during this past season with the Pirates. With numbers like these, he would be a strong pickup for the Tigers, and it will be interesting to see if they strike a deal for him from here.
