MLB Rumors: Mets Linked to Trade for Padres 2.87 ERA Starter

Nick Pivetta, San Diego Padres

The New York Mets have had an up-and-down start to the 2026 season, as evidenced by their 7-6 record. They have also been struggling as of late, as they have lost each of their last two games against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

With the Mets looking to be top contenders this season, it would not be surprising in the slightest if they look to add to their roster during the early part of the campaign. One of their biggest needs is another impactful starting pitcher, and they are being linked to a notable one because of it.

Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer recently named the Mets as a top landing spot for San Diego Padres pitcher Nick Pivetta.

When taking a look at the Mets' current pitching staff, it is clear that they could use a pitcher like Pivetta in their rotation. He would give their roster a nice boost if acquired, as he is a solid pitcher when performing at his best.

Pivetta has had a slow start to the 2026 season, as he has a 5.54 ERA in three appearances. Yet, when noting that he had a 13-5 record and a 2.87 ERA in 31 starts for the Padres just last season, it is clear that he should bounce back and would be a big pickup for the Mets.

It will be intriguing to see if the Mets can swing a deal for Pivetta, but the fit looks strong on paper.
