MLB Rumors: New York Mets Linked to Veteran All-Star Pitcher

It has been a terrible start to the 2026 season for the New York Mets, as they have a 9-19 record and are fourth in the National League East standings. When noting that the Mets had high expectations heading into the season and brought in multiple players during the winter, this kind of start has been very disappointing.

With how the start of the season has gone for the Mets, it would make a lot of sense if they looked to add to their roster during the early stages of it. Because of this, the Mets are now being connected to one of the top pitching trade candidates in baseball right now.

In a recent article for Sports Illustrated, Patrick McAvoy named the Mets as a potential trade destination for Athletics pitcher Luis Severino.

Severino is a pitcher who the Mets already know well, as he played for them during the 2024 season. When noting that the Mets' pitching rotation needs a boost, it would be understandable if they tried to bring back Severino this season. If they acquired him, he would be a good fit in the second half of their rotation.

It will be interesting to see if the Mets can swing a deal for Severino from here.
