MLB Rumors: 2 Boston Red Sox Named As Top Trade Candidates
The 2026 season has certainly been frustrating for the Boston Red Sox so far. At the time of this writing, the Red Sox are sporting a 9-13 record and are fourth in the American League East. They have also lost two out of their last three games, so they are not showing signs of breaking out of their early-season struggles yet.
If the Red Sox continue to perform poorly and find themselves out of the playoff race near the trade deadline, they could very well end up being sellers. Due to this, two of their players are already creating chatter as trade candidates.
In a recent article for ESPN, David Schoenfield named both Jarren Duran and Sonny Gray as among the top trade candidates to watch this season if the Red Sox end up being sellers.
Duran has been the subject of trade rumors for a long time now due to the Red Sox's surplus of MLB-caliber outfielders. He has struggled this season at the plate, as evidenced by his .172 batting average in 16 games. However, when looking at his resume, he is a prime bounce-back candidate and should generate plenty of interest if available near the deadline.
As for Gray, he was just acquired by the Red Sox from the St. Louis Cardinals this offseason. However, if the Red Sox continue to struggle, it would be understandable if they shopped him this season. The righty would likely generate a good amount of interest from contenders, as he is still a solid pitcher at this point in his career.
