While Sanchez will earn just $3.5 this year, and was on a very club-friendly, four-year $22.5 million contract extension signed in 2024, his new deal instead will guarantee him $107 million over the six years of the new extension, through 2032.
Former MLB pitcher and now MLB Network Radio contributor AJ Ramos said, "What he's done the past few years to become that ace is really impressive...
"It's unprecedented for a team to say, 'You know what, you deserve more, let's give you more money.'"
With the unfortunate thoracic outlet syndrome surgery that Zack Wheeler dealt with last season, Sanchez became the team's ace for the balance of 2025, and finished second in NL Cy Young balloting behind Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes. Sanchez went 13-5 with a 2.50 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 212 strikeouts in 32 starts. He also posted an MLB-best 8.0 WAR among pitchers.
It's a sensational breakout the past couple of seasons for Sanchez, who, as recently as 2022, posted a 5.63 ERA with the Phillies in 15 appearances. Those days are long past in the rear-view mirror.
