MLB Rumors: Yankees & Marlins Becoming Trade Partners
With Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodon, and Clarke Schmidt all carrying uncertainty, the idea of adding a controllable starter keeps bubbling up, and Edward Cabrera is starting to show up in more and more trade talk as a fit.
Edward Cabrera fits a Yankees rotation need
Cabrera is coming off a strong season with the Miami Marlins, posting a 3.53 ERA across 26 starts while racking up strikeouts. He is also still just 27, which matters for a team that needs help now but cannot build a plan around aging arms alone.
Hypothetical: Eury Perez, Sandy Alcantara, and Edward Cabrera are in a 3 way CY Young race every season.

Cabrera can take the ball early in the season and give the Yankees real innings while they wait for injured starters to work their way back, and he would not be a short-term rental.
Jasson Dominguez trade idea raises the stakes
The cost is where it gets uncomfortable, because at least one proposal has New York moving Jasson Dominguez to get it done.
That is a tough sell for fans given his upside, and the Yankees have not sounded eager to give up on him, especially with Aaron Boone publicly expecting Dominguez to be a regular.
Still, the logic behind the idea is simple. Miami needs offense, the Yankees need a starter, and Cabrera’s contract and age profile make him the kind of arm teams pay for with real talent.

If the Yankees land an outfield upgrade elsewhere, the pressure to keep Dominguez becomes less intense and the trade conversation gets easier to imagine. If they do not, moving him becomes a bigger gamble.
