MLB Trade Rumors: 2 Teams Drop Out of the Bidding for Edward Cabrera

The Miami Marlins are still looking to bolster their offense, and are willing to part with some of the depth in their starting rotation. Of course, former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara's name has been out there for eons, but Edward Cabrera entered the conversation this offseason as well.

A promising, hard-throwing, young-ish right-hander, Cabrera is a sought-after trade candidate around baseball. But according to Miami insider Barry Jackson, we can count out two prominent teams, who are now out of the bidding.

Jackson says the Houston Astros and Baltimore Orioles are no longer involved. Both teams came into this offseason greatly in need of replenishing their starting rotations.

The O's recently traded within their division for Shane Baz from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for four prospects. Baz is a former No. 1 prospect in the Tampa system, who posted a 4.87 ERA with 9.5 strikeouts per nine innings in 31 starts last season.

The Astros also addressed their starting staff when they brought in Mike Burrows from the Pirates in return for two of their top prospects.

As for Cabrera, the Fish are asking for an even more hefty return. Some teams, in fact, feel the Marlins’ asking price is too high. He has three more seasons of team control with a very reasonable $3.75 million salary in 2026.

Cabrera, 27, is a flamethrower with big velocity and a deep pitch arsenal. He recorded a career-high 137.2 innings this past season for the Marlins, with a 3.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 150 strikeouts. His average fastball velocity of 96.9 mph was in the 87th percentile, per Baseball Savant.
