Insider: Freddy Peralta Trade Incoming; 5 Teams Involved

Freddy Peralta, Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher

"I would not be surprised to see them trade him." That's insider Ken Rosenthal talking about the Milwaukee Brewers and ace starter Freddy Peralta. He says that teams will be "pushing hard" for the top-5 Cy Young finisher, who is set to earn $8 million in 2026, making him an extremely valuable commodity. That's likely about a quarter as much per year as what he'll earn on his next contract as a free agent next winter.

With that, some notable contending teams are all in on this, says Rosenthal.

Specifically, he names the New York Yankees, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles, San Francisco Giants, and perhaps the New York Mets as those teams that are "barging through the door".

Each of those teams are looking to boost their rotations for 2026, with arguably the Orioles and the Mets the teams most in need of that group, as each of the others already have a pretty solid one-two punch at least on their staffs.

With Milwaukee co-ace Brandon Woodruff having accepted his qualifying offer and NOT opting to become a free agent, the Brewers do go into the season, even without Peralta, with a solid top 3 in the rotation, in Woodruff, Jacob Misiorowski and Quinn Priester.

If they get a nice return, including a young starting pitcher, says Rosenthal, the Milwaukee front office might "justify in their heads" a Peralta trade.

The Brewers were the winners of the NL Central Division in 2025, and posted the best record in baseball with 97 wins, before bowing out in the NLCS to the ventual World Champion LA Dodgers.
