A’s Sign Tyler Soderstrom to Franchise-Record Contract

The Athletics have given a big Christmas bonus to emerging star outfielder Tyler Soderstrom with a massive extension on Christmas Day. It's the largest guaranteed contract ever handed out by the small-market team.

The deal is for seven years and $86 million, with an eighth-year club option and escalators that could take it up to a total of $131 million. The $86M is a franchise-record for guaranteed money.

Soderstrom began his season as the A's first baseman, but moved to left field after the promotion of another future cornerstone, Nick Kurtz.

The amazing thing is that Soderstrom had never played LF before at any level of professional baseball, and he wound up as Gold Glove Award finalist at the position. The move didn't bother him when he came to plate either, as he slashed .276/.346/.474 with an .820 OPS, 25 homers and 93 RBIs in a breakthrough 2025 season. He posted a 126 OPS+.

He's the third member of this young A's core to be inked to a long-term deal over the past year, joining DH Brent Rooker and outfielder Lawrence Butler.

It was a very merry Christmas for Tyler Soderstrom.
