Insider: Stunning Team In Pursuit of Cody Bellinger in Free Agency
Cody Bellinger was a perfect for the New York Yankees in 2025. And he had his second-best season since his MVP year of 2019 with the LA Dodgers. But as we all remember, Bellinger fell off big-time for several years, leaving the Dodgers to non-tender him after the 2022 season and let him go to free agency.
Now, three years later of watching him reclaim his career, the Dodgers are apparently interested in bringing back their former MVP.
Would Bellinger go back to LA after bad breakup with Dodgers?
Bellinger batted .272 with the Yankees this past season, with 29 homers and 98 RBIs with an .813 OPS, while playing strong defense at all three outfield spots. He can also play a solid first base.
He was an All-Star in two of his first three seasons in the majors with LA, including that 47 HR, 115 RBIs, 1.015 OPS MVP year of 2019.
Bellinger’s fate in free agency will likely have to wait until teams like the Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays battle it out on Kyle Tucker. The loser in that sweepstakes will go hard after Bellinger as a fallback. But for his part, the 30-year-old just may want to play his own hand, and determine his own fate by re-signing with the Yankees.
