Atlanta Braves Sign 6-Year Veteran Catcher

Colorado Rockies catcher Austin Nola celebrates during 2025 game.

The Atlanta Braves added veteran catcher Austin Nola on a minor-league contract with a Spring Training invite.

Nola, who logged big-league time with Seattle, San Diego, and most recently Colorado, brings a steady presence for a system that currently leans on Drake Baldwin and Sean Murphy at the top.

Even if his bat has cooled since his early-career surge, his experience working with varied pitching staffs and stepping in at first base gives Atlanta practical coverage across a long season.

What It Means for the Catcher Room

Baldwin looks entrenched after his strong debut and Murphy remains one of the best two-way catchers in baseball. Nola’s lane is veteran insurance, Spring Training competition, and leadership for young arms in Triple-A.

If injuries hit or the Braves need a third catcher for a stretch, he becomes a plug-and-play option. The front office did something similar last year with non-roster invites, and it fits a pattern of stocking capable depth without closing any doors on bigger winter moves.
