MLB Rumors: Big Changes Coming To The Astros After Postseason Miss
The Houston Astros’ streak of postseason appearances has ended, and now the franchise faces an offseason full of questions.
Missing the playoffs for the first time since 2016 has sparked speculation about sweeping changes, with manager Joe Espada’s future and general manager Dana Brown’s club option at the center of MLB rumors.
Astros owner Jim Crane is known for making bold moves, and with fan frustration rising, the pressure is on the front office to deliver immediate answers.

Astros brace for sweeping changes after 2025 flop
Injuries derailed Houston’s 2025 campaign, with stars like Yordan Alvarez, Jake Meyers, and multiple pitchers losing significant time. Brown acknowledged that missteps in diagnosing and handling injuries, particularly Alvarez’s fractured hand, played a role in their collapse.
At one point the Astros had an MLB-high 18 players on the injured list, and Brown has promised a “deep dive” into how the organization manages health and rehab. Beyond the injuries, Houston’s offense fell flat, ranking among the league’s worst in chase rate and approach with runners in scoring position.

The roster itself will also need reshaping.
Carlos Correa’s move to third base creates an infield logjam with Jeremy Peña, Isaac Paredes, and Jose Altuve all needing defined roles. The rotation behind Hunter Brown and Cristian Javier remains unsettled, while Josh Hader’s late-season absence highlighted bullpen depth issues.
Payroll flexibility exists with several expiring contracts, but Houston must balance arbitration raises against Crane’s willingness to exceed the luxury tax again. After setting the standard in the AL for nearly a decade, the Astros now enter an offseason that could redefine the next chapter of their dominance.
