MLB Trade Rumors: Yankees Balked at Huge Demand From Arizona for Suarez

Arizona Diamondbacks asking a huge price in a Eugenio Suarez trade

When the New York Yankees settled for a trade for Ryan McMahon to fill their third base needs, fans in the Bronx were not happy. After all, slugger Eugenio Suarez was (and still is) out there on the market. It's been revealed what the Arizona Diamondbacks were looking for from New York in return for Suarez, and it was a massive package.

According to Latin America baseball insider Francys Romero, the D-Backs were looking for:

  • An MLB player
  • An upper-level prospect (AA/AAA)
  • At least one lower-level prospect
And the return, keep in mind, was just a two-month rental of Suarez. Was GM Brian Cashman in the right to balk at that deal?

With the scare the Yankees got since turning down that deal, with Aaron Judge going on the IL with a flexor strain, recouping the player ranked right behind him on the Home Run leaderboard might have been a key move.

Will another team step up and give the D-Backs that massive kind of package for Suarez? MLB.com's Mark Feinsand has already reported that if they don't, Arizona would be fine keeping the third baseman around—and even trying to re-sign him this winter in free agency.

Suarez, 34, is currently leading the majors in RBIs with 87, while his 36 homers ties him for 4th in baseball, with Kyle Schwarber. Suarez has an .898 OPS and a career-best 143 OPS+.
