MLB Trade Rumors: Dodgers & Marlins Are Likely Trade Partners
Going into Monday night's start, former Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara was finally starting to look like his old self. After missing the 2024 campaign due to Tommy John surgery, the 29-year-old had an 8.47 ERA in his first 11 starts this season, but threw two nice games in his previous two outings, surrendering just two runs in 12 innings, with a 10:2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
The Miami Marlins aren't going anywhere this season, but a resurgence for Alcantara would give them the top trade piece heading down the stretch to the July 30th trade deadline for contending teams looking to beef up their rotations.
And if there's a top trade candidate, and a former Cy Young winner at that, we know that the Los Angeles Dodgers can't be far behind.
Insider Bob Nightengale of USA Today tells us that L.A. is "one of the teams lurking" on Alcantara, and why wouldn't they be? The Dodgers' pitching staff has been absolutely ravaged by injuries again this season. And as Nightengale notes, "They have plenty of prospects" to offer back to the Fish.
Two of the Dodgers' top starters, Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, have both been out since April; Roki Sasaki has been on the IL since early May; Tony Gonsolin made only seven starts in his comeback from Tommy John in 2023 before heading back to the IL earlier this month; many other relievers and other arms are also out of the lineup.
But hey, at least one big-name All-Star pitcher is making his return to the mound for the Dodgers on Monday night.
