Recent 2-Time All-Star & Batting Champion Gets DFA’d

Tim Anderson gets DFA'd by the Angels

The fall from grace has been so precipitous, it's hard to believe. A two-time All-Star, former batting champion, alpha-dog personality who performed on the big stage, Tim Anderson, has been designated for assignment by the Los Angeles Angels.

Anderson, while with the Chicago White Sox, hit .335 to win the 2019 AL batting title. He followed that up by leading the league in runs in 2020, then earning All-Star nods in 2021 & 2022. He batted .300+ for four straight seasons.

But things started to unravel for Anderson in 2023, when he managed just one home run and a .582 OPS (for a 62 OPS+). He hit just .214 with a .463 OPS with the Miami Marlins in 2024, and this year, it's been complete rock bottom, as Anderson hit .205 with a .499 OPS with the Angels, with no homers and three RBIs in 90 plate appearances.

Still only 32, it appears that for the man who hit this memorable Field of Dreams home run heard 'round the baseball world (and beyond), the dream could be over.

For his career, in 10 seasons, Anderson still has a .276 average, with a .714 OPS. He had 98 home runs and 122 stolen bases.

But in his final 262 games in the majors, nearly 1,000 at-bats, he totaled just two home runs. His maximum exit velocity went from the 88th percentile back at the beginning of his excellent run in 2018, to just the 14th percentile this year.

If this is the end for TA, he had a spectacular run for a short while, and he'll always have a place in the hearts of White Sox fans.
