MLB Rumors: Orioles Stun Rival Clubs With Announcement
The Baltimore Orioles were supposed to be one of the top teams in the American League East Division once again this year, after winning 192 games over the past two seasons. But 2025 has been a horror story for the O's, as they've plummeted to the bottom of the East, with a 19-36 record, with a 28th-ranked pitching staff, and a 20th-ranked offense.
They're 10.5 games back in the Wild Card chase, with no less than seven other teams to climb past as well. If this keeps up into July (which is only 4+ weeks away now), it's been expected that the Orioles will have to be sellers at the trade deadline.
Now, they've confirmed it, according to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal in The Athletic:
The Baltimore Orioles, while not yet giving up on their season, are informing clubs that if they continue at their present trajectory, they will be sellers at the deadline.
That should give contenders plenty of heads up to start scouting the O's, and get their offers ready.
We looked at a few players that should be on the Baltimore trade block, including several high-leverage bullpen arms, and a former All-Star.
All of this comes down to the fact that the Birds did nothing to help their pitching staff this past offseason, instead just watching ace Corbin Burnes head out the free agent door to the Arizona Diamondbacks. Their replacements of a 41-year-old Charlie Morton (7.09 ERA) and a 37-year-old Kyle Gibson (16.78 ERA, since DFA'd) can't be taken seriously.
And so here we are, with the Orioles on the verge of being sellers, just two years after a 101-win season.
