MLB News: Rockies Sign All-Star Infielder
The Colorado Rockies continue to flounder, with the worst record in baseball, by far, at 9-45 going into Tuesday's play. Firing manager Bud Black hasn't helped right the ship, as they've gone 2-12 since then. But maybe adding a player who was an All-Star as recently as 2023 couldn't hurt. They've signed former Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia.
The Colorado Rockies continue to flounder around with, stunningly, one of the worst offenses in baseball. Playing in the extreme offensive environment of Coors Field, that's hard to do. Their latest move won't do much to help that, but he'll serve as a decent backup.
The Rockies recently had to make do without starter Ezequiel Tovar at short, and it wasn't pretty. Tovar is back now, and Arcia will be ready to fill in if needed.
Over his career, Arcia has never been an offensive juggernaut, although he did hit 17 homers in each of the last two years. But over a 10-year career, he has a .241 average with a .667 OPS and a 78 OPS+, making him 22% worse than the average hitter. Maybe the thin air of Coors Field can give him a bit of a boost.
