MLB Trade Rumors: NL Contender Linked To Blue Jays' Kevin Gausman
Cubs Eye Kevin Gausman as Trade Deadline Target
Newsweek’s Andrew Wright was one of the first to float Gausman as a strong trade fit for the Cubs. “Gausman is the ace on a Blue Jays team that looks to be a bit stuck,” Wright wrote. “If Toronto decides to make moves, Gausman could be a prime trade candidate for the Cubs.”
Chicago has been forced to rely on journeymen and rookies after losing Justin Steele for the season and watching Shota Imanaga hit the injured list. Ben Brown, one of their current starters, owns a 6.39 ERA through 10 starts, and a move to the bullpen would make sense—if only the Cubs had the depth to support it.

Meanwhile, Gausman has quietly turned his season around. After a rocky start, he’s now posted a 3.68 ERA and 0.94 WHIP in 11 starts, including a dominant eight-inning outing against Texas where he struck out six and didn’t walk a batter.
The 34-year-old right-hander is signed through 2026 on a five-year, $110 million deal, and if the Blue Jays continue to hover around .500, they may see more value in dealing him now than waiting until next summer. As Wright put it, “With a proven and trusted arm like Gausman in the rotation, the Cubs’ rotation depth is among the best in baseball when Imanaga returns.” If Toronto decides to shake things up, Chicago might just be the perfect landing spot.
