TRADE: Rangers Acquire Star Reliever From Tigers

The Texas Rangers have made a significant move ahead of the MLB trade deadline by acquiring veteran left-handed reliever Andrew Chafin from the Detroit Tigers. 

Known for his distinctive mustache and long hair, Chafin has been impressive this season, posting a solid 3.16 ERA across 37 innings with a notable 30.9% strikeout rate. 

Despite a slight dip in his velocity and an uncharacteristically high walk rate, Chafin has successfully adjusted his pitch usage, increasing his slider frequency to achieve greater strikeouts. 

His performance, averaging 12.2 strikeouts per nine innings over 41 appearances, made him an attractive target for the Rangers, who are aiming to strengthen their bullpen as they defend their World Series title.

Chafin rejoined the Tigers this offseason on a one-year, $4.25 million contract, which includes a $6.5 million club option for 2025. 

The Rangers will assume the remaining $1.42 million of Chafin’s base salary and potential incentives that could boost his earnings based on reaching specific game appearance milestones.

The exact return for Chafin has not been disclosed, but the trade is pending medical reviews of the involved parties. 

This acquisition allows the Tigers to gain value from a 34-year-old veteran reliever while providing the Rangers with a proven, versatile arm.
