New York Yankees Acquire Pitcher From Tampa Bay Rays

The New York Yankees have bolstered their pitching depth by claiming Colby White off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 25-year-old right-hander, recognized for his impressive strikeout abilities during his time at Mississippi State, has had a promising yet challenging professional journey.

White quickly climbed from Low-A to Triple-A within the Rays' organization in 2021, but his progress was hampered by a Tommy John surgery that sidelined him throughout the 2022 season and most of 2023.

Despite setbacks, including struggles with control upon his return, the Yankees have seen enough potential to make a move.

Although his recent performances have been marred by high walk rates and difficulties with command, the organization is optimistic about his ability to regain the form he showcased during his rapid rise through the minors. By sending him to Double-A Somerset, the Yankees provide White with a fresh start and an opportunity to refine his skills and potentially climb back to his pre-injury peak.

Over his minor-league career, the 25-year-old holds an impressive 2.83 ERA, 1.01 WHIP, with 167 strikeouts across 111.1 innings and 91 appearances (7 starts & 12 saves). Photo Credit: Kim Klement Neitzel-USA TODAY Sports
