AL Executive Says Blue Jays Considering Guererro Jr. & Bichette Blockbuster Trades

The 2024 season continues to be a huge disappointment for the Toronto Blue Jays, as they sit in last place in the AL East at 21-25. It seems that perhaps everything is on the table as they try to chart their course into the future.

According to an AL executive, both Vlad Guerrero Jr. AND Bo Bichette could be traded come July.

The unnamed exec explained the situation to Mark Feinsand of mlb.com:

I don’t think they’re opposed to it. They’ve talked to teams about it. The asks were ridiculous, but I think they’re going to try to retool a lot, and using those guys to get pieces may be the way to do it.

The "ridiculous" asks may put a damper on any such possibilities, but it's certainly something to consider, as the Vladdy/Bo era hasn't led to one single postseason victory, only crushing defeats.

Bichette, 26, a two-time All-Star, is having a dreadful season, with just two home runs and 16 RBIs in 43 games. He's slashing just .230/.289/.333 with a woeful OPS of .622, down from his career mark of over .820 heading into the season.

Guerrero, a three-time All-Star, has heated up a bit of late, and is now hitting .286 with an OPS+ of 125. But the power and production is still largely missing, as he has managed only four home runs. A far cry from the 48 he hit in 2021, or the 32 he launched in 2022, or heck, even the 26 he was able to muster last season. He also has just 21 RBIs.

Guerrero, in fact, is the 17th ranked first baseman in WAR since the beginning of 2023.

“Neither of them are off to great starts, but other teams might view them as change-of-scenery guys,” opined an NL executive. “Everyone knows what these guys can do, but that roster might just need a change.”
