Houston Astros & Miami Marlins Make Trade

In a move aimed at bolstering their roster, the Houston Astros have acquired infielder Jacob Amaya from the Miami Marlins.

The exchange involved the Astros parting with cash considerations and minor league right-handed pitcher Valente Bellozo. This transaction underscores the Astros' proactive approach to strengthening their lineup with versatile talent.

Amaya was the Marlins' 9th-ranked prospect, bringing a blend of Major League experience and promising potential to the Astros. He becomes the Astros' 23rd-ranked prospect with the move.

Having made his MLB debut with the Marlins last season, Amaya posted a .222 batting average and two RBI in four games.

Additionally, the versatile infielder's performance in Triple-A Jacksonville, where he boasted a .252 batting average along with 26 doubles, 15 home runs, and 65 RBI over 128 games in 2023, further solidifies his potential to the Astros.

To accommodate Amaya's addition to the 40-man roster, the Astros transferred left-handed pitcher Bennett Sousa to the 60-day injured list.

In return, the Marlins have acquired Valente Bellozo.

Bellozo, a 24-year-old right-handed pitcher, holds a 3.45 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, with 271 strikeouts across 269 innings and 69 appearances in his minor-league career.
