Yankees Rumors: 2 Rival AL East Teams Eyeing Domingo German

Former New York Yankees pitcher Domingo German has had his problems both on the field and especially off the field. And while rivals in the American League East have had a close-up view of all the controversy, it apparently hasn’t stopped both the Toronto Blue Jays and Baltimore Orioles from considering adding him to their 2024 squads.

According to a report by Mark Sanchez in the New York Post, German is actually in talks with six teams around the majors, and two of those teams have made offers.

Sources have told Sanchez that German has completed all the required steps of his treatment program for alcohol abuse, which he entered after a wild incident in the Yankees clubhouse at the beginning of August. He was immediately placed on the restricted list at that point, and never returned to the team.

And in what was a season of extreme highs and lows, that clubhouse incident came just over a month after German pitched a perfect game for the Yankees. But the rollercoaster ride of his 2023 wasn’t even limited to those two stories. He was also ejected and suspended back in May for an illegal substance violation when he was caught by umpires with too much sticky stuff on his hands.

Going back a few years, German was also suspended for 81 games earlier in his career for a domestic violence incident.

Through six seasons with the Yankees, German has compiled a 4.41 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP while striking out 9.4 batters per nine innings against only 2.8 walks per nine. And it’s those sometimes compelling on-field results that may end up getting him another chance in the big leagues, and even perhaps in the AL East, , despite his off-field transgressions.
