MLB Rumors: Miami Marlins Interested In Speedy Free Agent

The Miami Marlins are reportedly showing interest in acquiring Adalberto Mondesi, the free-agent infielder known for his promising combination of power and speed, as they look to bolster their infield lineup.

According to reports, the Marlins are in search of a shortstop and see Mondesi as a potential fit for this role.

Mondesi, who previously showcased his talents with the Kansas City Royals and the Boston Red Sox, has had a career highlighted by moments of star potential, such as in the 2018 season when he hit 14 home runs and stole 32 bases in just 75 games.

Despite his evident talent and potential, Mondesi's career has been marred by injuries, preventing him from consistently staying on the field and limiting his appearances significantly.

He has never played more than 102 games in any season and has struggled to reach 450 MLB plate appearances in a single season, with a career-high of 433 plate appearances in 2019.

Since then, Mondesi has only managed to appear in 109 games and take 423 plate appearances over four years.

The Marlins' interest in Mondesi comes during an offseason where the team has not made significant moves, with their most notable action being a minor league deal with outfielder/first baseman Trey Mancini.

The addition of Mondesi could potentially provide the Marlins with a dynamic option in their infield, should he manage to overcome his injury challenges and return to his previous form. Photo Credit: Lindsey Wasson-USA TODAY Sports
