5 Teams In on Marcus Stroman, Frontrunner Emerging

It was only a few days ago that we learned that free agent starting pitcher Marcus Stroman had set his sights on the New York Yankees only to have them rebuff his advances. That situation, however, seems to be evolving, as the Yankees are now said to be the leading candidate to sign the former Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, and Toronto Blue Jays pitcher.

Whether this Yankees change of heart is due to the fact that the Bronx Bombers have learned that they lost out on Japanese star Shota Imanaga, who signed with the Chicago Cubs, or whether it was bad info from Bob Nightengale in the first place, is up for debate. But while insider Jon Morosi pegs the Yankees as the frontrunner, fellow baseball insider Jon Heyman says that five teams are still in the running for Stroman.

Aside from the Yankees, Heyman lists these teams:

  • Baltimore Orioles
  • Boston Red Sox
  • Los Angeles Angels
  • San Francisco Giants
Heyman doesn't think that Baltimore is a very good likelihood, but he won't rule them out just yet.

All of those other teams were also in on Imanaga at one point, so it makes sense that they've turned their attention to Stroman.
