FREE AGENT SIGNING: Lourdes Gurriel Jr. Signs in Familiar Place

Lourdes Gurriel Jr. was a key player in the Arizona Diamondbacks' run to their World Series appearance in 2023, but upon becoming a free agent this offseason, he had some suitors to consider. In the end, he apparently liked what he saw in Phoenix enough to stick around.

Pending a physical, Gurriel has decided to stay in the desert. It's reportedly a 3-year deal worth $42M.  It also includes a club option for 2027 and an opt-out after the second season.

He batted .261 with 24 homers, 82 RBIs and a .772 OPS in his first year with Arizona after several seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays. In 5 years north of the border, he hit .285 with a .797 OPS and a 117 OPS+.

The Cuban left fielder also had a fine postseason for the D’Backs, with 3 long balls, and 5 RBIs in the World Series with a .333 average and .850 OPS.
