MLB Rumors: Names Emerge As Yankees' Trade Bid For Juan Soto Advances

So where are we in the Juan Soto Yankees/Padres trade talks? Advanced enough that names have been exchanged, says Yankees Insider Andy Martino. And at the top of those names that the Padres are looking for are mammoth prospects/young players Jasson Dominguez and Anthony Volpe.

Naturally, with Soto heading into free agency after the 2024 season (no, agent Scott Boras will not allow him to sign an extension before hitting the open market), that price tag might be a little high for New York, so the teams are currently "not close to an agreement" says Martino.

Top prospect Dominguez, aka The Martian, still has six years of team control, so it would be highly unlikely to see the Yanks move him for a potential one-year rental.

But almost every insider around believes that it's practically inevitable that Soto winds up in Pinstripes.

"They desperately need a guy like Juan Soto to help Aaron Judge there," said former player Trevor Plouffe of Jomboy Media. "If I had to make a bet I'd put it on the Yankees... I do think having a generational talent like Soto in a big market like the Yankees... sets the sights towards (them) being the freaking Yankees!"

The Bronx Zoo will be a wild place to watch in the weeks to come.
